My patch lies just 200 meters from home, 10 kilometers from Lahti and Orimattila city centres. The area consists of River Rengonjoki, fields, village and mixed woodland. The river resembles a narrow ditch that you can almost jump over. The river floods in spring and attracts waterfowl, waders and geese.
I try to get to the site every day. At least I take a quick glance to it when I’m walking the dog in the village. I’ve seen roughly 150 bird species in this area in the last two years. The best sightings are Pink-footed Goose, Montagu’s Harrier and Marsh Sandpiper in the year 2018.
